The details

What you get, in detail

News from BookStoop. One email a month with your little library's progress toward the goal, plus occasional news: campaigns we're running, things relevant to your little library, and ideas for serving the neighborhood through our little libraries.

A "Well cared for" medal. Every little library that completes the monthly goal gets a medal on its BookStoop page, so everyone who visits knows it's lovingly looked after.

Caretaker of the Month. The first little library to complete the goal each month gets a special medal and a $25 gift card for paint, hinges, a good shine, or whatever it needs. We send it as an e-gift card or by mail, whichever you prefer.

How the monthly goal works

A little library completes the month when it has all three of these. The photos of every neighbor count, not only yours, and only photos that show the shelf changed count: the same shelf photographed again adds nothing. Each phone counts once a day per little library (its first photo that changes the shelf that day). The board updates every time a neighbor snaps a shelf.

3 active weeksA week (Monday to Sunday, Seattle time) is active when at least 3 books move in or out.
2 neighbors who helpedAt least two different people sent a photo that changed the shelf. You count as one.
20 books movedTwenty books in or out during the month, counted from shelf photos.

If you like, you can also invite your neighbors to update your little library after they take or leave a book. It helps keep the connection between our community little libraries alive.

Rules, the winner and tie-breaks
  1. Join with your little library. It's free and voluntary. We email you a link to confirm. Up to three caretakers per little library. Only activity after your little library joins counts, and photos taken by BookStoop itself never count.
  2. Everyone who completes the goal earns the medal. "Well cared for" appears on the little library's BookStoop page for that month.
  3. The first to complete it is Caretaker of the Month. We go by the exact time of the photo that completed the goal, so there's always one clear first. In the rare case of the same second, the little library with more books moved wins, then the one that joined the Circle first.
  4. Once a year. A little library can be Caretaker of the Month once per calendar year, so the thank-you moves around the neighborhood. It can still earn the medal every month.
  5. The board is public. Anyone can follow every little library's progress on the board above, live.
  6. The prize. A $25 gift card for the little library's upkeep, sent as an e-gift card to the email you joined with or by mail to the little library's address, whichever you prefer. We run the Circle every month during the BookStoop pilot. If the rules ever change, we'll say so here first, and never in the middle of a month.
Privacy and questions

No purchase, no app, and no account needed. Your email is used only for the Circle: the confirmation, the monthly update, occasional news about BookStoop campaigns and little libraries, and contacting the winner. We never share it.
